This is probably a no-brainer, but Grindr is by far the best gay dating app on the market. It’s the most popular — over 27 million members worldwide — and it has some of the most effective location-based matching tools you’ll find on any dating app anywhere.

1.) Skout: This free mobile app for iOS and android users is certainly one of the less creepy mobile apps we’ve seen. First, there are two separate communities for teens and adults, so there will be no age discrepancies or worries of being courted by a potential partner 20 years your junior. It’s also great that the decision is 100% in your court if you would like to make contact with someone or respond to someone who has contacted you. What Skout does is find people for you based on your location and interests, and you can decide if you would like to connect. This could mean linking up at the same concert downtown, your favorite local bar, or even a walking tour in Rome. The ball is in your court, and fate could have it your very match could be exactly where you are! For the strong believers in fate, this could be the app for you.

2.) MeetMoi: This smartphone app prides itself as “not another online dating app”. Well, that could be true…but it’s still a dating service, but one that we like! Meet Moi pairs two people with busy schedules who typically don’t have time for casual dating, and gives them the opportunity to plan a date or meeting. MeetMoi detects matching interests and locations for two registered users, and, if you are near a person who they deem is a match for you, you will both be alerted immediately and have the chance to meet right then and there! Sounds too good to be true right? Well, with any dating services app there is always the possibility that the person you match with is exactly the opposite…not your match. But you can decided this after MeetMoi makes your introduction and the two of you chat to decide if you’d like to meet. Who knows, your prince charming could be shopping just a block away.

3.) How About We: This location-based dating service app is both for singles and couples and has been praised already by The New York Times, Gawker, and Cosmopolitan for fun, exciting date ideas and keeping the love alive (all at an affordable price!). If you are single, you suggest a date idea starting with the phrase “how about we…” and then follow with something you’d like to do, such as wine tasting, an art gallery viewing, indoor soccer, you know name it. Then based on your suggestions and interests, How About We will send you suggestions from people they think you’ll like. You can meet offline and, if it doesn’t go well, at least you’ll have a fun date out of it and a check off your bucket list. For couples, you can sign up together and choose between dates you’d like to go on and get a membership discount of up to 75%! Tickets to sold out shows, anniversary specials, and even a concierge service can be included- they handle the details, you select.

4.) Badoo: This location-based dating app is a little more on the risky side, with 175,449,688 guys and girls active (as of March 19), but is so widely popular with a bigger pond to fish from. You can login with Facebook, browse users photos, share interest, and even date, while you can browse singles near you or far. The only caveat- you may have to browse through hundreds of users to find one you like. With a very indiscriminate filter- all are welcome.

5.) Zoosk: This iPhone and android app can be compared to Tinder, where you browse through pictures of locals singles, flirt online, and chat with people you’re interested in dating. Zoosk is available in 25 different languages and 80 countries, and also alerts you when people are interested or have viewed your online profile. It’s quick, easy, and free, and there’s really not much to Zoosk- which must be why it’s so widely popular. Most people only have their age, general location, name and profile picture, but if you do want to buff up your profile- that comes at a cost. You can buy Zoosk coins via PayPal or a bank transfer from your cell phone or obtain a membership to send gifts to other members, find out if someone has read your messages or profiles, or contact someone. To be honest, this app is really more for social networking, than for dating and compatibility.

Best Dating App Without Location

Getting Started

The size of the Bumble application is 22 megabytes. The app enables you to log in with your Facebook account. It also lets users sign up with their phone numbers. Users choosing the 2nd method are asked to verify their phone numbers.

Best

If you have a Facebook account, choose the 1st option. If you do so, Bumble will import your profile picture and other details from your Facebook account. The app asks users to enter their phone numbers, upload a profile picture, and select their gender. It also requests them to enter their birth date, email address, password, and name. You can upload and manage up to 6 photos with Bumble.

Modes

As mentioned earlier, you can use Bumble to find new dates, make new friends, and connect with business professionals. The application prompts users to select one of these three modes. You can change the mode by tapping the area highlighted by a yellow-colored arrow.

Once users choose the mode, they must select the gender or reason why they’re using the application. Then, Bumble automatically finds men/women younger or a few years older than you and displays their picture on the screen. If you’re interested in the person or want to see more photos of him/her, swipe down. As in Tinder, you must swipe right to skip the person. When you switch the mode, Bumble will keep your profile picture intact, but it will change the bio and other vital details. This is because Bumble displays different profiles for its three modes.

To help BB find people nearby you, you must enable location access permission before running it. By default, Bumble shows the profiles of users that are located within a 40 to 60 kilometers radius. To increase or decrease the distance range, navigate to the settings interface. Bumble allows users to like the profile of other users. It also lets you block fake or inappropriate profiles.

Chatting

Men can’t directly connect and chat with the opposite gender. Once you express interest in a person, the person should accept your request. If he/she rejects the request, you’ll have to look for another person to chat with.

Like other messaging apps, BB offers a different interface for exchanging messages. The application displays profile photos and names of the users in a list. You should select the person you want to chat with.

Filters

Bumble lets you use two of the following filters for free:

  • Height, pets, star sign.
  • Religion, etc.
Dating

To use more filters, you must upgrade your account to Bumble Boost. You can disable multiple filters at once by tapping the toggle option displayed on the filters interface.

Other features:

The app has in-app purchases that cost within $3.5 to $200. If you have an account with Instagram or Spotify, you can connect your account with these two services.

Non location based dating apps

What is the benefit of linking Spotify or Instagram with Bumble?

Well, BB will display your latest posts and favorite artists on your profile.

Settings

Bumble app has a special mode called Snooze that will make you invisible for up to 1176 hours, or for an indefinite time. It enables users to delete their accounts permanently. The options to snooze or delete the account are located in the settings interface. Bumble’s settings window allows you to disable certain notifications. It also enables you to set the minimum and maximum age limit the app should consider while finding the matches.
